Functional Description Introduction
The Weitek 2D Graphics Engine (GE) is a 64 bit BitBLT engine designed to accelerate Microsoft Windows
based graphics operations. The design is implemented in Verilog HDL and is fully synthesizable. Fully
tested drivers are available for Windows 3.1 and Windows 95 operating systems.

An overview of the GE capabilities are as follows:
- 8, 16, 24, and 32 bit pixel sizes for all operations.
- Three operand rasterop (Source, Pattern, and Destination) for all operations.
- Monochrome bitmap expansion for CPU to framebuffer and framebuffer to framebuffer operations.
- Packed Source data format.
- Bitmap, Pattern, Source, and Destination based pixel transparency
- Support for VGA compatible framebuffer accesses (read and write modes)
- 4MB framebuffer address range
The GE interfaces to the CPU through
a set of memory mapped registers at a programmable location. The interface to
the memory controller is transparent to the memory technology used for the
framebuffer. Using Weitek's 0.8um triple layer metal process, the GE operates at
40 MHz. The datapath will read or write 64 bits of data each cycle.
