WEITEK SPARC Processor Upgrade Now Shipping

SPARC Power µP now shipping
WEITEK's SPARC processor upgrade, SPARC POWER µP, is now shipping in production volumes.
SPARC POWER uP is a processor upgrade for Sun SPARCstation 2, IPX, and compatible systems. It uses
clock-doubling technology and on-chip caches to provide an 80 MHz upgrade processor for existing 40 MHz
workstations. The existing CPU is removed from its socket and replaced by SPARC POWER uP, using an
innovative extraction/insertion tool provided by WEITEK. Installation takes about 20 minutes.
Most applications see a 1.4x-1.9x speedup with the new processor, which runs all existing applications
and SPARC operating systems without recompilation, drivers, or patches.
