SunService now supports WEITEK SPARC Power µP CPU upgrade

SUNNYVALE, Calif., - October 29, 1993 - WEITEK Corporation (NASDAQ:WWTK) today announced an agreement with SunService, a business unit of Sun Microsystems, Inc., to support customers who install the Weitek SPARC POWER UP in Sun SPARCstation 2 and IPX workstations.

The Weitek SPARC POWER UP is a single-chip, socket-compatible processor upgrade that increases application performance from 1.4x to 1.9x. It is easily user installable and fully compatible with SPARCstation 2 and IPX operating system and application software.

Under the agreement, SunService will support the Weitek chip as a part of the SPARCstation systems at no additional charge under the SunSpectrum(SM) support program. "This is another example of our commitment to provide open service in an open systems environment," said Larry Hambly, president of SunService. "The flexibility and simplicity of our SunSpectrum support program allows us to easily meet the changing needs of our customers."

The Weitek POWER UP is available now at a price of $1,500 for single unit orders, with quantity discounts available for volume purchases.
